The Innate Immune Response of Eusocial Hymenopterans to Viral Pathogen Challenge

چکیده

Abstract In recent years, insect immunology has expanded rapidly in research interest, and available literature kind. Insects combat pathogens through a range of behavioral physiological immune defenses. The need for robust immunity is especially important to eusocial insects; nestmate proximity increases exposure transmission pathogens. Further, eusociality involves cohabitation thousands individuals with characteristically reduced genetic variability, turn increasing susceptibility epidemic disease outbreaks. To this, they have developed diverse responses pathogens, including individual innate defenses, social immunity, secretion potent glandular chemicals. as the presenting threat, these, viruses may present greatest challenge. Social employed by Hymenoptera been reviewed whereas review not our knowledge addressing Hymenopterans viral pathogenic invaders. We argue that such advancement understanding Hymenopteran biology critical applied interests. further implications are far-reaching; their success source both substantial economic loss case invasive ants significant gain honey bee Apis mellifera.

Pathogen recognition in the innate immune response.

Immunity against microbial pathogens primarily depends on the recognition of pathogen components by innate receptors expressed on immune and non-immune cells. Innate receptors are evolutionarily conserved germ-line-encoded proteins and include TLRs (Toll-like receptors), RLRs [RIG-I (retinoic acid-inducible gene-I)-like receptors] and NLRs (Nod-like receptors). These receptors recognize pathoge...

The Challenge for Gene Therapy: Innate Immune Response to Adenoviruses

Adenoviruses are the most commonly used vectors for gene therapy. Despite the promising safety profile demonstrated in clinical trials, the efficacy of using adenoviruses for gene therapy is poor. A major hurdle to adenoviral-mediated gene therapy is the innate immune system. Cell-mediated recognition of viruses via capsid components or nucleic acids has received significant attention, principa...

Innate immune response to Salmonella typhimurium, a model enteric pathogen

The innate immune system provides the first line of defense against invading microorganisms by inducing a variety of inflammatory and antimicrobial responses. These responses are particularly important in the gastrointestinal tract, where the needs for efficient nutrient uptake and host defense collide. Many pathogens have evolved to specifically colonize the intestine, causing millions of case...

Exogenous administration of lipids to steers alters aspects of the innate immune response to endotoxin challenge.

This study examined the effects of increasing energy availability from both dextrose and lipid treatments on the pro-inflammatory response to LPS in Holstein steers. Steers were randomly assigned to one of three groups: saline at 0.5 ml/kg body weight (Control) or 50% dextrose [0.5 ml/kg body weight (Dextrose) to mimic calm cattle's response to LPS] administered immediately prior to LPS (0.5 µg...
